49 CFR49CFR Hazardous Material Training The Department of Transportation makes training mandatory for almost anyone who handles hazardous material, regardless of the amount. This introductory-level course covers basic skills needed to prepare, offer and accept domestic shipments of hazardous materials. Instruction will focus on non-bulk packages transported by motor vehicle and meets applicable requirements for initial and recurrent training.
Who Should Attend: Personnel responsible for the safe shipment of hazardous materials, including anyone who fills packages, marks or labels containers, completes or signs shipping papers, loads or unloads vehicles, or operates vehicles used to transport hazardous materials.
Course Outline: Organization and Structure of the 49CFR, Definition, Identification and Classification of Hazardous Materials, Hazard Classes/Divisions, Packing Groups, UN Numbers, Precedence of Hazards for Multiple-Class Materials, Proper Shipping Name Selection, Technical Name Rule, Hazardous Substances, Hazardous Materials Table, Packaging, Selection/Requirements, Marking and Labeling, Shipping Paper Requirements, Placarding, Exceptions, Additional UPS Requirements. This class meets DOT requirements for initial and recurrent training (49 CFR 172.704).
